God of War 4 is a third-person action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio. . The story is loosely based on Norse mythology, and the main character is Kratos, who has a son named Atreus now. Kratos acts as a mentor and protector to his son, and has to master the rage that has driven him for many years.
Kratos now lives with his young son Atreus deep in an isolated forest in the world of the Norse gods, a savage land inhabited by many ferocious monsters and warriors. Kratos and Atreus finish performing the funeral rites for Faye, Kratos’s second wife and Atreus’s mother. They cremate her body and gather her ashes, intending to honor her last wish to carry her ashes to the top of the highest mountain in the Nine Realms.
A mysterious man with godlike powers arrives at their home, forcing Kratos to kill him. They also discover that Midgard is being afflicted with a phenomenon called the “Desolation”, where undead creatures plague the land, and the few remaining humans have fled.
Kratos no longer uses his signature double-chained blades as his default weapon. Instead, he uses a magical battle axe, which is called the Leviathan Axe and can be infused with different elemental abilities and thrown at enemies. Enemies in the game stem from Norse mythology, such as trolls, ogres, and draugrs, as well as revenants, beings warped by seier magic.
In the game’s secret ending, Kratos and Atreus return home and, exhausted from their journey, they fall asleep. In a dream sequence years later as Fimbulwinter ends, Thor appears at their home ready for battle. If you get stuck in the game, check out the video walkthrough and gameplay for the game.
